A scientific approach to lutherie.
Origins
Hub of Acoustics is a generator of initiatives created to share educational and informational content on acoustics in lutherie.
The project took shape in 2024, from the collaboration between Martino Quintavalla, Simone and Andrea (Wood ’n’ Tones), and Giuliano Nicoletti (Iulius Guitars). Giuliano has gone on to continue his own individual path, stepping away from the HOA team.

Meet the Team
Martino
Martino Quintavalla builds stringed instruments, especially mandolins, skillfully blending tradition with scientific research. He holds a PhD in Materials Engineering and has carried out numerous academic collaborations.
He is firmly convinced that only continuous study makes it possible to create modern instruments that are beautiful, reliable, and efficient.

Simone
Simone Bonanomi is a luthier and PhD in Physics, co-founder of Wood ’n’ Tones. He combines scientific research with hands-on experience to design acoustic guitars that unite beauty and sound.
In 2020, he launched The Abies Project, an innovative service for selecting Italian spruce designed to support the most demanding luthiers around the world.

Andrea
And then there’s me, Andrea Corsini: voice of Hub of Acoustics and co-founder of Wood ’n’ Tones. Unlike my colleagues, who take care of the teaching, I focus on HOA’s identity and support the team in organizing Academies worldwide.
And since I’m always the one behind the camera, this is one of the very few photos where you’ll actually see me.
A Shared Background
Our individual ventures, already well established in the field, have spent years studying and deepening topics such as material selection, instrument design, construction, and final setup — always consistent with a scientific approach.
Today, as Hub of Acoustics, we want to share this experience and promote a new culture of modern lutherie, capable of uniting artisanal excellence with innovation.
The Academies
Every year we organize intensive training events — the Academies — designed to offer a complete and stimulating learning experience.
These are days dedicated to exploring key topics of acoustics applied to the construction of musical instruments, with a particular focus on acoustic guitars and mandolins.
The Academies are a unique opportunity to acquire or refine technical and scientific skills, while engaging directly with professionals and enthusiasts in an environment of exchange, growth, and collaboration.
Other Projects
Beyond the Academies, we collaborate with Schools, Universities, Companies, and Private Individuals: together we can develop training paths, tailor-made projects, and dedicated initiatives.
